Use of the service

ColorSwoop is provided free of charge, as is, and without warranty of any kind. You may use the site for any lawful purpose. There are no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to cancel.

Palettes and colour data

All palettes and colour data on ColorSwoop are released under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal dedication. You may copy, modify and use them in personal and commercial work, in client projects, and in products you sell, without attribution and without asking.

This covers the hex values, the palette names and the colour metadata. A colour itself cannot be owned, and we make no claim over any combination you find here. If a palette resembles a company's brand colours, that is a similarity of numbers — it does not grant you any right to use that company's trade marks.

The site itself

The ColorSwoop name, logo, page design, written guides and code are ours and may not be copied or reproduced without permission. Quoting a sentence or two with a link is fine; republishing a guide is not.

Automated access

The catalogue is deliberately open: there is a JSON endpoint at /api/ and a machine-readable summary at /llms.txt, and AI crawlers are welcome to read the site. What is not allowed is automated traffic that places unreasonable load on the service — hammering the image endpoints, or requesting pages fast enough to degrade the site for other people. We may block traffic that does this. If you want a bulk copy of the data, take the JSON file once rather than crawling five thousand pages.

What the tools do and do not promise

Colours render differently on every screen. Monitor calibration, display profile, ambient light and print process all shift what a hex value looks like in the real world, and the previews here are not a proof. Check physical output against a physical sample before you commit to print.

The contrast checker reports WCAG 2.2 contrast ratios calculated from the hex values you give it. A passing ratio is one requirement among many, it says nothing about the rest of a page, and it is not legal advice or a certification of accessibility compliance. The colour-blindness preview is an approximation intended to catch obvious problems, not a clinical simulation.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ColorSwoop is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the site, the palettes or the tools — including accessibility outcomes, print or brand results, or losses from the site being unavailable.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to external references and sample images. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

How we handle data, including the like counts and analytics, is set out in the privacy policy.

Changes

We may update these terms at any time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of the current terms.
