Summary

ColorSwoop has no accounts and never asks you for personal information. The palettes you save, your theme choice and the record of which palettes you liked stay in your browser. Two things do reach our servers: the like counts described below, and the analytics described under Analytics.

Images you upload to tools

The image-to-palette tool processes files entirely inside your browser. Images are never uploaded or stored.

Likes

Liking a palette sends that palette's identifier to our server so the total count can be updated. Which palettes you liked is kept in your browser and is not stored with your record on the server.

To stop the same visitor voting repeatedly we store a one-way fingerprint alongside each vote: your IP address and browser user-agent string, combined with a secret value and hashed with SHA-256. We keep only that hash — the IP address and user-agent themselves are never written to storage, and the hash cannot be reversed to recover them. Under the GDPR this hash is pseudonymous personal data, and it is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in preventing vote manipulation. You can avoid it entirely by not liking anything.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people visit and where they arrive from. It records pages viewed, approximate location (country or city level, derived from an IP address that Google does not expose to us), device and browser type, and the referring site. We also record an event when a visit arrives from an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity, so we can see which pages those tools recommend. We cannot identify individual visitors from any of this.

We also record which features get used, because page counts alone cannot tell us whether the site is any good: copying a hex code or an export, saving a palette, generating one, extracting colors from an image, running a contrast check, downloading a PNG, and sharing a link. Each event carries what was acted on — a palette's address, a hex code, which export format — and nothing about you. The one exception is site search, where the words you typed are recorded so we can see what people came looking for and did not find; type nothing personal into it and there is nothing personal to record. The image you drop into the palette extractor is never part of this: it is read in your browser and never leaves your device.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (names beginning _ga) in your browser to recognise repeat visits. You can block them with your browser's cookie settings or with Google's opt-out add-on.

Cloudflare Web Analytics also runs on every page. It measures how quickly pages load and render on real devices — the numbers we use to keep the site fast — along with the page address, country, device type and browser. It sets no cookies, stores no identifier in your browser and does not follow you between sites or visits, so it cannot build a profile of you. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf as our hosting provider.

Advertising

ColorSwoop is intended to be supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. When ads are running, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message before personalized ads load. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Cookies and local storage

We set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets the first-party cookies described above, and advertising providers may set their own cookies once ads are running. Cloudflare Web Analytics sets none. Local storage — which stays in your browser and is never transmitted — holds your theme preference, your saved palettes and the list of palettes you liked.

Children

ColorSwoop is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
